When fans think about the Ocean’s trilogy, they tend to remember the mostly-male all-star cast led by Hollywood heavyweights George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle.
But a decade after the third installment Ocean’s Thirteen (2007) was released, Clooney and original director Steven Soderbergh have backed a new film which focuses on an all-female team spearheaded by three Oscar-winning actresses.
Ocean’s 8, which is seen as a sequel AND spin-off to the series, has premiered its official trailer online.
Directed by Gary Ross (Seabiscuit, The Hunger Games), the film stars Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side, Gravity) as Debbie, the estranged sister of Ocean’s hero Danny Ocean (Clooney) as she decides to assemble the perfect crew of women thieves to help pull off a heist at New York’s star-studded Met Gala.
Bullock is joined in the versatile cast by fellow Oscar winners Cate Blanchett (Lord of the Rings trilogy, Thor: Ragnorak) and Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables, Interstellar) as well as other talented performers like Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter series, The King’s Speech), Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story, The People vs. O.J. Simpson), Mindy Kaling (The Office, The Mindy Project) and Awkwafina (Bad Neighbours 2, Storks).
Pop star Rhianna (Battleship, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets) rounds off the heist team with male support coming from Damian Lewis (Homeland, Billions), Richard Armitage (The Hobbit trilogy, Hannibal) and British chat show host James Corden (Gavin & Stacey, The Late Late Show).
The film will also feature cameos from Ocean’s veterans Matt Damon (Linus Caldwell) and Carl Reiner (Saul Bloom) as well as appearances from big celebrity names like Kim Kardashian, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and former One Direction singer Zayn Malik.
Ocean’s 8 will be released in the UK on June 22nd 2018.
