Back in 2015, 20th Century Fox took on a big gamble with their adult-themed action blockbuster Kingsman: The Secret Service. It surprisingly performed well with critics and audiences on both sides of the Atlantic who praised its violent take on the spy genre as well as that incredible “Freebird” church sequence.
Two years on, leading man Taron Egerton is back to reprise his breakthrough role as former chav-turned-protagonist spy Gary “Eggsy” Unwin in the upcoming sequel The Golden Circle.
Bolstered by a stronger cast than its predecessor, the film’s official trailer has finally premiered online.
Directed again by Matthew Vaughn, the plot sees Eggsy and the Kingsman having to regroup after their headquarters is destroyed by a new enemy. They eventually find themselves teaming up with their American counterparts known as the Statesmen in order to stop their foe from ruling the world.
Despite his character’s apparent death in the original film, Colin Firth is set to figure in his returning role as Kingsman agent Harry Hart. Other familiar faces back for the sequel include Mark Strong (Merlin), Sophie Cookson (Roxy), Edward Holcroft (Charlie Hesketh), Hanna Alstrom (Princess Tilde) and Samantha Womack (Michelle Unwin).
The new outing does welcome several high-profile newcomers which include Oscar-winning trio Julianne Moore (Still Alice, The Hunger Games series), Halle Berry (Monster’s Ball, X-Men series) and Jeff Bridges (The Big Lebowski, Hell or High Water) as well as Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street, Magic Mike), Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, Narcos), Vinnie Jones (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Arrow) and Poppy Delevingne (The Boat That Rocked, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword).
There is also a surprise appearance from British music legend Elton John who many hope will be “still standing” by the time the film ends!
Kingsman: The Golden Circle will be released in the UK on September 29th.
