After making a lot of money in the UK box-office and doing well in awards season last year, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is currently awaiting an upcoming sequel which has taken almost a year to develop.
However producer Eric Fellner has told Collider that plans to make the sequel Smiley’s People are still ongoing despite a lack of updates on the project.
“We are working on another one. Producer Tim Bevan is putting it together as we speak with screenwriter Peter Straughan and director Tomas Alfredson, so yes it’s in development. Tinker did unbelievably well and it didn’t cost hardly anything… But things take time. Tim is passionate about making sure we do another one.”
The story, which is one of eight books written by John LeCarre that involve the George Smiley character (most recently played by Gary Oldman in the BAFTA-winning film), sees the subtle MI6 agent come out of retirement to investigate the death of one of his old colleagues. It leads to a mission which sees him confront his nemesis, Soviet spy-master Karla, for one final showdown.
